Gpu shark power limit reached11/8/2023 Watercooled Eluktronics THICC-17 (Clevo X170SM-G): When unplugged, the GPU power limit is still 35W.ĮDIT 3: Screenshot of hwinfo, plugged in and running furmark If it isn't supplying enough power, the laptop would naturally power throttle, but I am using the original 230W charger. I'm also mad at the BIOS as its options are super limited.ĮDIT 2: Now the only hardware issue I could think of is the power brick. Other than that, I didn't find any info, my problems seems to be unique!Īny help would be much appreciated as this renders this expensive laptop pretty useless for what it's intended for.ĮDIT: It feels like some kind of Battery Mode or Power Saving Mode is activated, but I checked everywhere. Also the screenshots mentioned in the workaround are missing due to being from a deleted thread. This seems a bit overkill as I don't want to tweak anything, I just want it to go back to as it was. I've found this thread about unlocking some extra functionality through regedit and modifying the BIOS. My guess is that somehow, something set a power limit for the GPU and since Razer won't let you access these options, there's no way of knowing or changing that. It's not a hardware issue as this occurred when changing some settings and the limit is held very aggressively at 55☌ It's not the laptop itself, everything ran fine before that one point I've tried using MSI Afterburner to regain control over any settings, but no luck.īattery Boost in Razer Synapse is deactivated It also shows as " Power Limit: N/A" in there I've found this help file, not actually related to my issue, but nvidia-smi won't let me set the power limit " Changing power management limit is not supported for GPU: 00000000:01:00.0.". GPU Shark tells me: Limiting Policies (Nvidia): GPU Power Limit reached Setting the fan speed to 5400rpm in Razer Synapse, this decreases temperature to around 48☌, so it's most likely a power limit Setting the performance mode to 'Gaming' in Razer Synapse Setting Furmark (or any other app) to 'High Performance' in Windows Graphics Settings Setting Nvidia Power Management Mode to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' I thougt about disconnecting the CMOS battery to be sure Resetting the BIOS via F3 (load optimised defaults). Resetting Windows (I've had trouble doing a completely fresh install from a stick so I used Windows' reset function // I didn't do DDU as I suppose the reset should be doing that) Of course I'm running all tests plugged into the wall. HWInfo tells me the GPU has a thermal and a power limit in place. GPU-Z tells me the default power limit is 80W, max is 95W. If I run a benchmark like Furmark I see temps hitting 55☌ and not going up a bit. I don't remember exactly what I did, it's already been a while, but I did put everything back to what it was before. Then one day while I was tinkering with some settings regarding iGPU vs dGPU, performance of the dGPU became useless. Had a lot of good gaming sessions with it. I've got this machine for roughly a year now.
